KUŞADASI - Nine-year-old Dutch leukemia patient Lisanne Akkerman’s dream to swim with dolphins came true Thursday in Kuşadası when she was given a private session with dolphin trainers at the Adaland Dolphin Park.
Akkerman wrote to the Make-a-Wish Foundation upon suggestion from her Turkish friend in the Netherlands and her family was invited to Kuşadası by the foundation. Akkerman made her dream come true by swimming with and touching dolphins and she thanked to both the foundation and the dolphin park staff. Akkerman and her family toured Kuaşdası before joining a dolphin show at Adaland. After the show, Akkermöan was invited into a special session and given the chance to swim by holding the fin of a dolphin in the company of trainers
Touching dolphins
"My biggest dream was to touch and swim with dolphins," she said. "I cannot believe it came true. I thank the Make-a-Wish Foundation and Adaland Dolphin Park for making my dream come true. When I return to Holland, I will receive chemotherapy treatment. I want to come back as soon as I recover." Adaland Dolphin Park Executive Manager Yaşar Günaydın said they were very happy to contribute to making Akkerman’s dream come true.
