Dream marriages abroad real

ADANA - Turkish couples who want to mark their marriage with a special event increasingly prefer marrying abroad, leading businesspersons in the tourism sector to organize wedding tours abroad.
India is the most popular place for Turks who prefer destination weddings, while Italy, Sri Lanka and Las Vegas follow. Kenya, Thailand, Bali, Seychelles and Paris are among popular destinations as well.
Exotic destinations
"The number of couples who want to make their special day unforgettable and celebrate the day alone or with their families and friends in exotic destinations with local traditional wedding ceremonies has increased," said Cem Polatoğlu, the spokesperson for Tour Operators Platform. Three years ago only three or five couples applied for marriage abroad, but the number has increased to 50, he said.
The minimum cost of a wedding abroad with 30 guests is 100,000 euros and there is also an additional cost of 2,000 euros per guest. Every Turkish citizen who wants to get married abroad can do so by applying to Turkish consulates abroad, Polatoğlu said. The marriage procedures change from country to country, he added. "Our consulates send their officers to the place where the wedding ceremony is held and they solemnize the marriage," he said.
