Doğan, who declared 36 million Turkish Liras of income for 2008, will pay 13 million liras in income tax.
The notice marked Doğan’s 11th tax championship in Istanbul. Doğan has ranked among the top taxpayers for the past 15 years. Meanwhile, Turkey’s tax champion for 2008 was from Ankara. Rahmi Koç, honorary chairman of Turkish conglomerate Koç Holding, declared 51.4 million liras income for 2008. He will pay 18 million liras in income tax. Besides Koç, the rest of Turkey’s top 10 tax champions were said to be from Istanbul.
In 2007, besides becoming the tax champion of Istanbul, Doğan was also the tax champion of Turkey, as he paid 10.45 million liras of income tax. This year, he ranked second after Koç.
Hüsnü Özyegin was the third top taxpayer in 2008. He ranked second in the same list last year, as he paid 10.67 million liras in income tax. Koç Holding Board Member Semahat Sevim Arsel held his position in fourth. Doğan has been Istanbul’s tax champion 11 times in the last 15 years. He also was Turkey’s tax champion six times over the same period. He was the tax champion of Turkey in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2007. He ranked second six times.
