A meeting yesterday in Diyarbakir, which was sponsored by the Democracy Platform, made up of 28 civil foundations, turned later into a PKK protest. The "Democratic and Peaceful Solutions to the Kurdish Problem" meeting was attended by around 20 thousand people, many of whom shouted slogans in support of imprisoned terrorist head Abdullah Ocalan.

one of the main themes of the meeting was to discuss the recent events in Semdinli, where a group of men said to be gendarmes working for the government have been accused of bombing a local bookstore.

Pancards visible at the meeting ranged from "We will head for the mountains and demand some answers," to "I am European, Turkish, and Kurdish," to "The People of Semdinli are not alone." Following the breakup of the meeting, a group of about 500 marched in support of Ocalan and the PKK. Stones were thrown at police who tried to break up the march with pepper gas, and a total of 10 people were taken under arrest.
