Stunning macarons at Patisserie Wenge
Luxembourg’s famous Patisserie Wenge is a Belgian-owned gourmet grocery and patisserie with a restaurant on the top floor. The patisserie is famous for its macarons and tea selections. Macarons are French-style, sandwich-like pastries made with two cookies and cream in between. The colorful, chocolatey and fruity collection at Wenge is some of the best macarons one could ever taste ¬– a true must on a visit to Luxembourg! Wash it down with a pot of over 250 different choices of teas, or just an espresso. The café has a soft, welcoming décor and the staff is friendly and professional. Expect to pay around 5 euros for four macarons. Teas range from 5 to 90 euros a pot. Wenge’s acclaimed fusion restaurant upstairs is also one of Luxembourg’s finest. Â

Best Italian in town
According to gourmet food fans and Italians living in Luxembourg City, Dal Notaro is the best Italian restaurant in Luxembourg City. Although a bit difficult to find at times, the trip to Clausen is definitely worthwhile to dine at this romantic, cozy and genuinely Italian eating spot. The menu is only available in Italian, but the waiters are more than happy to translate. The wine menu is extensive, with a wide vintage selection from Italy. As a starter the melanzane mozzarella is recommended. Del Notaro’s highlight is no doubt the huge, thin crust pizzas. Pasta dishes like pappardelle alla trilogia di funghi and spagetti al cartoccio are some of the regulars’ favorites. Even if one does not like pasta or pizza, meat dishes and the seafood (although expensive) are also notable. Not cheap but worth the splurge.

Alternative vegan fusion cuisine
Restaurateur Miss Ana has established her own colorfully designed organic, vegan restaurant. This small yet cozy eating spot offers guests daily prepared specials, so no menu is offered – only the fresh daily arranged dishes by Ana are delicately brought to the table. Although it might take a while for the dishes to come (depending on how many guests are in the venue), a caringly prepared combination of rice, beans, vegetables and seeds finally arrive at the table. Ana’s authentic and passionate take on the kitchen as well as conversing with customers about healthy lifestyle changes makes for a delightful and experimental evening of vegetarian dining. No alcohol is served. The average price for soup, a main course and dessert is 35 euros per person.

American-style burgers at Maybe Not Bob’s Pub
For a relaxed atmosphere and scrumptious hamburgers at a decent price, Maybe Not Bob’s Pub is the place to hit. Opened in1993 by two Anglo-American owners, the establishment was originally designed to be more a bar than restaurant. But with the demand for Bob’s burgers, ribs and mozzarella sticks, the place made a name for itself as scrumptious hamburger joint. The ambiance and design has an American approach while maintaining a British pub feeling. Maybe Not Bob’s also offers vegetarian options like veggie burgers and chili sandwiches. The prices are extremely reasonable – 9 euros for Bob’s Burgers with fries and salad – and the service is friendly and fast. Â

Neighborhood fine dining
The charming and central neighborhood of Belair is a quarter in western Luxembourg City. Rôtisserie Ardennaise is located in this exclusive area, serving up French-style cuisines for more than15 years. Classified as a typical French restaurant, one might find the characteristic Luxembourgies dining here in this traditionally cozy and pleasant eating spot. The menu changes frequently and seasonally. The la soupe de petits pois (pea soup) served warm or cold, is a wonderful starter as is saumon fumé, par nos Soins. For seafood, the recently introduced coquilles Saint Jacques à la plancha sauce beurre blanc (scallops with rich, not butter sauce) is surprisingly superb! L’Entrecôte grillée produit du terroir is a classic signature dish here. Expect to pay around 50 euros per person with wine.
