Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas said that after meeting the party leaders, he would assign the duty to form the government to one of them. At a press conference on Monday, Denktas summarized his desires as follows, “The best thing to do for the leaders of political parties is to come together and form a nationalist government after discussing the requirements of the national cause.   However this is easier said than done, because each party has its own view.” Denktas said that he desired quadripartite talks including the Turkish and Greek Cyprus, Turkey, and Greece. First of all, Denktas will meet the leaders of the four parties that passed the threshold in the elections. In one week, the official results of the elections will be announced, Parliament will be formed, and deputies will take an oath. Denktas can appoint the new Prime Minister only after all these are completed. If parties cannot agree to form a government in two months, then the elections will be resumed. This would signify the beginning of process incompatible with the EU bid of Turkey, therefore it is not much probable.
