TRNC President Rauf Denktas said that the Cyprus Solution Plan offered by the United Nations had features endangering the survival of Turkish Cypriots in the island as a separate people and their identity and for this reason "My conscience prevented me from accepting this plan."In an article he wrote for conservative The Washington Times newspaper, Denktas said that the Annan Plan included elements that would remove the basic structure of peace and stability in Cyprus and in the region. He said that "Turkish Cypriots can not endanger their lives and future, by accepting a Plan which is void of the definite and concrete security guarantees of Turkey and which is based on a non-existing trust, By insisting that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus does not exist, and they own the whole Cyprus sovereignty, the Greek Cypriot side has removed this minimum trust. "  "The arrangements in the plan, was to reduce almost half of the TRNC population into a refugee on their own land and was to cause heavy economic, social and pychologicaly consequences. The Plan foresaw handing one fourth of the most fertile lands of TRNC to Greek Cypriots, undermining these humanitarian consequences. No agreement can root the seeds of the annihilation of TRNC." Denktas added that he was still open to a positive response from the Greek Cypriot side, for his offers for a solution.Â
