ADANA - New Turkish films and TV series on television are using old songs and it is increasing people’s interest in the old recordings. Reports from antique dealers say the albums of well-known, dead Turkish artists like Zeki Müren, Ayla Dikmen, and Hafız Burhan are searched for the most.
We collect things older than 100 years and re-evaluate them," said Adana Antique Dealers Association Chairman Sadullah Anıl. He said they could collect those things during long visits to other cities, and the most interesting are renovated.
"Gramophones, guns, rifles, swords, old radios, historical documents, old coins, armchairs, tables and old records are among our products. Old records, and accordingly, gramophones are very popular these days," he said.
Old records in movies and TV series
He said the reason for this popularity is that the songs of the late artists are being used in Turkish films and TV series. "There is a serious interest in old Turkish records. People, when they listen to an old song in a
film or TV series, want to listen it over and over again and go to antique dealers. Now they are looking for records of late artists. This demand is increasing prices of old records fivefold. Longing for the past makes people remember these artists."
Anıl said some people prefer the sound of old records instead of the latest-technology CDs. He said there were many old record collectors. "Even creaking sounds are harmonic in old records. You cannot hear this sound in CD recordings. People of every age are interested in it as a hobby." Anıl said the price for an old record typically ranged from 1 to 100 lira.
