ISTANBUL - A new workshop led by master cartoonist Cem Uygun seeks to rejuvenate interest in the art of the comic book, which was popular in the 1960s, but has become less so in recent years.
The Applied Cartoon Workshop is being organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Cultural Directorate and will be held twice a month. During the workshops, participants will try to visualize the characters, events and places in literary works on Istanbul culture Ğ including "Amak-I Hayal" by Şehbenderzade Filibeli Ahmet, "Puslu Kıtalar Atlası" (The Atlas of Misty Continents) by Ihsan Oktay Anar and "Istanbul Efsaneleri" (Istanbul Legends) Ğ and turn them into comic books.
Limited groups
Cem Uygun, who will conduct the workshop, is a graduate of Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, and has been working as an illustrator for many years.
The first workshop was held on Saturday and the next one will take place on Mar. 14 at 4 p.m. at the
Atatürk Library. The program will be limited to 30 participants.
