ANTALYA - The person who was seen shooting at students during clashes between leftist and right-wing protestors at Antalya’s Akdeniz University was sentenced to five years nine months in prison but has been released due to time served.
Ömer Ulusoy, who was recorded by news cameras while he was shooting at leftist students on the Akdeniz University campus in April last year, later surrendered to the police. Ulusoy, known for the sword tattoo on his forehead, was one of 45 people charged. He was the only person who was remanded in custody during the trial.
An Antalya court Wednesday found him guilty of "attempted murder, firing of a weapon into the air and threatening." The court sentenced him to five years and nine months in prison.
The court decided Ulusoy had served 437 days in prison and decided to release him. No one was injured by Ulusoy’s gun.
