ANKARA - An Ankara court yesterday postponed the trials of three Democratic Society Party, or DTP, deputies to Sept. 29, citing Parliament’s reply to the call for a deposition.

Parliament said the court’s notification could not be transmitted to the deputies because they were out of town. The court recently requested that Parliament Speaker Köksal Toptan allow the depositions of some DTP deputies on their alleged links to terrorism. The demand created a dilemma for Toptan as the deputies rejected to make depositions, citing their parliamentary immunity.

DTP deputies Ahmet Türk, Emine Ayna and Selahattin Demirtaş yesterday maintained their stance against the court’s call and did not appear before the court. Toptan prevented a possible crisis by sending a written note to the court."The court’s call for depositions was transmitted to the secretariats of the deputies, but not the deputies themselves, on the grounds that they are continually out of town because of their work," the parliamentary note read. The court ruled that another announcement, which will include a new trial date and hour, will be sent to Parliament.

Speaking at his party’s parliamentary group meeting, DTP leader Ahmet Türk yesterday said they would not appear before the court in September, either. "We will not make depositions in order to not become a party to the lawlessness," he said.
