ANKARA - Turkey yesterday expressed its pleasure of Sri Lanka's cooperation on the international stage in the fight against terrorism. Turkey and Sri Lanka have both suffered from terrorism and know only too well the threat terrorism poses to humanity, President Abdullah Gül told a joint press conference with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Before the conference, state officials from the two countries signed bilateral commitments on the extradition of criminals and air transportation.
Rajapaksa said terrorism was an issue that occupied the domestic agendas of both Turkey and Sri Lanka.
"There is no such concept as a good terrorist or a bad terrorist. All terrorists are bad," he told reporters.
The visiting president said the terrorist attacks in India showed yet again that all countries should take joint steps to combat terrorism.
Formal protest
India has lodged a formal protest with Pakistan over the attacks in Mumbai that killed at least 170 people and wounded almost 300.
For his part, Gül said the summit set for Friday in Istanbul between the leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan would focus broadly on security in Asia, the future of Afghanistan and the resolution of problems between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Gül said he believed good results would emerge from the meeting.
