Cry for help in e-mail
A Beirut doctor, Hilias Nikola, made the plea in a global e-mail. After reading his e-mail, Prof. Dilaver Ergin, a Turkish doctor living in France, contacted the Turkish Kidney Foundation for help.

Lesson in humanity
The Turkish Foreign Ministry and Naval Forces also stepped in. The medical supplies, worth over $300 000, were rushed to Lebanon. 22 Lebanese children were saved.
