Charges that were brought against a senior member of the European Parliament by a Turkish court under the controversial "Article 301" were dropped on Friday. Joost, Lagendijk, Turkey-EU Parliamentary Commission Co-chair, was charged for insulting the Turkish armed forces after he was quoted as telling journlists that the Turkish military was provoking clashes with the terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Beyoglu Press Prosecuotr Nihat Erdem concluded after a crime report was issued on Lagendijk that the charges should be dropped.
Lagendijk has said that he will attend the court on Tuesday, where five journalists will be tried under the same Article 301, for comments they made over the banning over the Armenian Conference.
