Last night Fenerbahce fans were jumping with joy as Brazilian striker Nobre scored the winning goal of the Turkish Super League in the 66th minute sending the 42,000 fans at their home stadium into a frenzied celebratory song. Nobre scored the goal with a killer header that was to hit home and win the club the Super League title for the 16th time - making Fenerbahce the first 16th-time winner of the Super league.
Galatasaray just couldn't fight back and were to leave the match with commiseration's. Â The first-half passed with not too much to write home about, but in the second-half Fenerbahce stepped up their attack which took them onto win the championship. On defense was Onder and Serkan who both played a strong line of defense, securing a no goal finish for Galatasaray. Other note-worthy play came from Alex and also from Anelka, who following his injury seemed to make a great come back. From the Galatasaray play Ayhun and Egun did well, but surprisingly key player Hakan Sukur did nothing to affect the defense of the Fener side. And as for Ribery it was as if he wasn't on the pitch at all with little or no contribution from him in the final moments. Following the match the stadium and the streets from Cadde Bostan to Kadikoy were full of screaming fans, honking car horns and fireworks that were seen high above the stadium as part of the celebration. The evening was very well organized and the celebrations although noisy, were very much seen as safe and orderly.Â
