NEVŞEHIR - Although it has always been a tourism attraction, a project aimed to entice more Europeans to Cappadocia has been launched.

The project, created by the Cappadocia Culture Association, began organizing promotional visits to several European cities to fulfill its target of promoting the area as well as Turkish culture at an international level.

Turkish ambassadors in Europe, Nevşehir governorship and businessmen from the area support the project and have introduced Cappadocia to eight cities in Germany and the Netherlands.

Exhibitions
According to figures given by the Cappadocia Culture Association, the activities reached a total of 500,000 visitors in Europe, thanks to a 98-page handbook in German and the distribution of about a million brochures.

"There were photograph exhibitions, examples of handicrafts and introductions to local dances and cuisine to explain more about Cappadocia," said Mümin Uluç, chairman of the association. "With that campaign, we promoted the area to both the German community and Turks living in Germany." He said there were also lotteries awarding trips to the area in cooperation with flight companies and hotels.

"We will also invite successful Turkish students to the area," Uluç said. The campaign has not come to an end yet, as Berlin, London and Den Haag in the Netherlands, will have their Cappadocia weeks soon.
