ISTANBUL - Turkish chef Yıldırım Serim will have the be responsible for the daunting task of preparing tonight’s gala dinner for the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, at which Turkey is the guest of honor.

Serim, the head chef of BTA Catering, which caters for the food and drink outlets run by TAV Airports Holding, made the announcement Friday at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport and said it would be his pleasure to prepare gala dinner for about 400 people, including international film stars and selected guests. "I am planning to offer a menu combining traditional Turkish cuisine with modern international cuisine," Serim said.

Serim said he was a member of the World Chefs’ team, and that he took part in competitions organized by the World Association of Chef’s Societies. He added he would combine southeastern, central Anatolian, Aegean and Mediterranean cuisine with the international cuisine for the gala dinner. "French cuisine is among the best in the world but I will present the richness of Turkish cuisine for such an organization." Serim said he would head a team of 15 professional chefs.
