BURSA - A business organization in the northwest city of Bursa has launched a campaign encouraging the use of domestic and local products in order to overcome the impacts of the economic crisis more rapidly.
Rumelisiad, an association of industrialists, businessmen and professionals from Rumelia, a name literally translated as "land of the Romans," has called on businesspeople to use domestic raw materials. The association’s campaign also aims to alert consumers via newspaper advertisements.
The Turkish economy is going through a significant ordeal, said Rumelisiad Chairman Vehbi Varlık, adding that sensitivity for the use of domestic goods should be increased during such crises.
Noting that the importance of domestic goods has risen amid market contraction, Varlık said, "Never before did we need each other this much to survive. Our society should revise its consumption habits and prefer domestic products as much as possible. With the campaign we have launched to stimulate the use of domestic goods our association and member enterprises have started to put advertisements in all newspapers published in the city. We will continue working toward encouraging the use of domestic goods." Business circles using domestic raw materials in manufacturing is of great importance amid the crisis climate, Varlık said, requesting the same sensitive approach from industrialists. "The more we reduce the rate of foreign raw materials in our production, the more we can ease our real economy. The conditions we are in highlight the significance of using Bursa goods as much as possible."
Requesting a meeting with other business associations to negotiate how to foster the use of Bursa-made goods, he said, "If there is a crisis, there is also a solution. Solutions are easier to find if we act together. We expect other industrialist and business associations to take part in our advertising campaign."
