Speaking at the meeting of the "Turkey-EU Chamber Forum Project," Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu proposed the creation of an "institutionalized consulting mechanism" to enable business circles to participate in the negotiation process. Hisarcıklıoğlu is the chairman of the Union of the Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, or TOBB.
Structural restriction
"We submit our views on the issue to the authorities," Hisarcıklıoğlu said at Tuesday’s meeting. "But there is a structural restriction for us .. Twenty-seven out of 35 negotiation topics directly affect the business circles. But the relationship between authorities and the business world is limited. We can only exchange views."
Aiming to enhance dialogue, TOBB and the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, or EUROCHAMBRES, launched a campaign, under the name of "The Contribution of Chambers to the Turkey-EU Civil Society Dialogue." The project involves 96 chambers from both sides.
