ISTANBUL - The American Business Forum in Turkey, or ABFT, elected a new Board of Directors in its general assembly meeting Friday.
Rahşan Cebe, managing director at Cushman & Wakefield in Turkey, was elected as the first chairwoman of the board, said ABFT in a statement Monday.
"The new board ... would intensify efforts to boost U.S. investments in Turkey and also support expansion of bilateral trade. Turkish trade with the United States stood at $15 billion in 2008," the e-mailed statement said.
Members of the board include Jeffrey Kemprecos, director of external affairs at Merck, Sharp & Dohme; Dündar Uçar, chairman of the Wall Street Institute Turkey; Serkan Elden, Eurasia president at AIG Investments; Armin Zerunyan, general manager of Hilton’s Istanbul cluster; and Tolga Görgülü, public and industrial affairs manager at Frito-Lay.
"The growing Turkish investment environment also has challenges that need to be dealt with, and we are keen to cooperate with the Turkish and U.S. governments and the business community partners to move forward," Cebe said.
"We are very excited about our prospects. President Barack Obama's visit has helped renew ties and underscore the importance of bilateral trade and investment," Jeffrey Kemprecos told Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review on Monday. "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is uniquely positioned to help advise on the strategies and policies necessary to draw more ... investment to Turkey. We see tremendous potential in Turkey for U.S.-based companies, but we also recognize the need to work with the government to create the optimal investment environment. Our role is to communicate how reforms and policies can help accelerate investment, trade and job creation."
