ANTALYA - One of the world’s biggest tour companies, Britain's Thomas Cook, will host 2,500 tour operators in Antalya as part of a project with its Turkish partner, the Diana Tour Company, in which the Antalya region and nearby tourist centers will be introduced to operators.

A member of the Diana Tour executive committee, Burak Tonbul, spoke to the Anatolia news agency.

He said of the 2,500 British tour operators that would be hosted in Bellek, the first group of 1,250 would arrive on Dec. 4 and a second wave would follow in mid-December.

Thomas Cook Chief Executive Officer Manny Fontenla-Novoa and other executive members will also visit the Mediterranean city, Tonbul said, and the project will contribute to the promotion of both Turkey and the whole Souther Region.

Tonbul said this project was supported by the Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Antalya Governor. He said the project would include an intensive conference in which information on the region would be provided to tour operators and also visits to important historical sites such as those at Aspendos, Perge and Side.

An important meeting between Manny Fontenla-Novoa and Antalya Governor Alaaddin Yüksel will occur on Dec. 5, Tonbul said.

"During this meeting, Fontenla will give a cheque of 100,000 euros to the Governor, a donation to be used to rehabilitate forest areas in Serik and Managat where thousands of hectares of forest were burned last year," Tonbul added.
