ANTALYA - A British and a Swiss couple, who have been touring the world by bicycle, met in Antalya’s Demre district last week.
The British couple is on a three-year tour, with the last stop being Australia, while the Swiss couple aims to travel to Thailand in two years.
British Peter Bowden and his wife Wendy Bowden started their cycling tour three months ago. Quitting their jobs to cycle around the world, the couple met the Ackermanns, Swiss couple in Greece, and they decided to continue their tours together. The British couple, who have traveled 3,600 kilometers so far, aim to cycle 20,000 kilometers to arrive in Australia. The Swiss couple, who have traveled 1,900 kilometers so far, plan to cycle another 17,000 kilometers on their way to Thailand.
Cycling during the day and sleeping in tents at night, the cyclists cook for themselves. Taking a break in Demre, the couples said they love Turkey with its friendly and hospitable people.
"We left Liverpool for Australia, which is a city we want to live in," said Wendy Bowden. "We plan to cross Europe and Asia during this tour, and to get to know different countries and people. Our favorite is Turkey and the Turkish people among the countries we have been touring so far."
"We do admire the hospitality of the Turkish people. Turkey is a marvelous country with its natural beauties and unprecedented nature. We want to spend the winter in Turkey", said Mireille Von Asx Ackermann, a teacher in Switzerland.
