BODRUM, Muğla - Bodrum will host a three-day rock festival next week.
The first Bodrum Rock Festival will fill the tourist town in the western province of Muğla with rock, rap and experimental tunes from April 23 to 25.
Organized by the Bodrum Foundation of Art and Culture, or BOSAV, the festival will host Bulutsuzluk Özlemi, Oojami, Ceza and Hakan Kurşun.
A Turkish rock ’n’ roll pioneer who released records that merged commercial and critical success in the early 1980s, Bulutsuzluk Özlemi will play songs from its most recent number, "Zamska."
Arguably the most prominent name of the country’s booming rap music scene, Ceza, will attract hip-hop listeners to the festival.
Hakan Kurşun, who is best known for his 1996 debut "Kaos," which has slowly gained cult status in the past few years, will also play at the festival.
One of the most interesting names on the bill is Oojami, whose style fuses breakbeat dance rhythms with Turkish music influences.
The band’s leader, Necmi Cavlı, is also the organizer of the festival.
A musician who spent most of the 1990s in London and composed music for some high-profile Hollywood movies, Cavlı hopes that this festival contributes to the local music scene.
"In Bodrum, the consumption of music is high, but that is not the case with production," he said. "We aim to make the festival a platform to be opened to young musicians and help them show their creativity. We also want Turkish and international tourists to have great time in Bodrum, at the start of this new tourism season."
The concerts will be held at Hadigari Bar and Halikarnas Disco.
