BODRUM - Zeynep Okçu Ballet School in the Aegean town of Muğla’s Bodrum district will represent Turkey later this year at the International Prague Dance Festival in the Czech Republic and at the Tianjin International Culture and Art Festival in China.
Ballet teacher Zeynep Okçu, the founder of the school, said the school has successfully represented the country since its foundation, starting with winning five medals at the 2008 Dance World Championship between June 28 and July 4 in Vancouver, Canada.
Okçu said they would join many dance festivals and competitions abroad this year. "We joined the International Prague Dance Festival for the first time in 2005. It was our own experience abroad. We will join it again this year from July 1 to 7 and we are expecting to win more medals."
She said they had been working with a team of 16 people for the Tianjin International Culture and Art Festival in China from July 21 to Aug. 3.
International successes
Okçu said the school trained students for professional careers in the international arena and offered academic education at the world standards. She said the school earned many international successes within a short time thanks to their hard work.
"The first success was at the ninth International Prague Dance Festival, where dancers came from many countries, including Russia, Italy, Belgium, France, India, Czech Republic, Korea and Panama. We won six school awards and 11 personal awards there. Following this success, the school was invited to the Dance Grand Prix Italy competition in Italy in 2006. We won awards at this competition in each category we competed."
