CHICAGO - The Columbus Blue Jackets clinched their first ever place in the Stanley Cup playoffs with a 4-3 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.
Columbus, which entered the NHL in the 2000-01 season, is the last active team in the league to qualify for the postseason.
Blue Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin scored the lone shootout goal after Rick Nash goaled with 5:30 left to level the score and send the game into extra time.
"I don't know if it's quite sunk in yet," Nash told reporters. "We're so used to playing out the season. We're going to try to win these last two games to keep our position in the standings."
At 41-29-10, Columbus is currently sixth in the Western Conference.
