ISTANBUL - A bomb blast in front of the Istanbul headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, wounded nine people, reported private news channel NTV yesterday.
Two party officials were injured along with four police officials, Anatolia news agency quoted Istanbul Governor Muammer Güler as saying. A cluster bomb exploded outside the building, according to the first examination, said Güler, NTV reported. Two of the injured are in serious condition.
The AKP’s Istanbul headquarters were recently moved to a new building in the Sütlüce neighborhood of the central Beyoğlu district. Police are examining security camera footage of the building.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated explosion caused by a gas leak in the municipality building of the Alikahya town in the western province of Koceali, has killed three people and injured 17. Heavy construction vehicles had broken natural gas pipes and caused the explosion.
A Postal and Telecommunications General Directorate, or PTT, employee and an employee of İZGAZ Gas Company both died in the blast, said Sabri Gökbudak, mayor of Alikahya.
