BERLIN - A night was organized for Berlin’s only Turkish theater Tiyatrom, which is in danger of being closed down because the Berlin Senate has pulled its support. Among the attendees of the night was Berlin Ambassador Ahmet Acet, Consul general Mustafa Pulat, NGO representatives and employers.
Tiyatrom director Yekta Arman said the Berlin Senate pulled its support for the theater on grounds that it was not a contemporary theater. He said the theater would pay the 30,000 euros it owes for rent and called on Turkish society in Berlin to support the theater. Arman said 12,000 signatures have been collected for a petition to save the theater since last year and they are aiming to increase this number to 100,000.
