ISTANBUL - Famous Swedish director Ingmar Bergman’s films featuring various female characters will be shown at the Suna İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum in Istanbul from Feb. 13 to March 1. The event "Bergman and Women" will be organized in collaboration with Swedish Consulate General and the Pera Museum.
During the event, Bergman’s films "Secrets of Women," "Summer with Monika," "Dreams," "To Say Nothing About These Women," "Persona," "Cries and Whispers," "Autumn Sonata" and "Brink of Life" will be screened. Also, the documentary, "Bergman Island," which features Bergman’s last days, will also be shown.
Nine Oscar nominations
Bergman, who is regarded as one of the most important filmmakers in international cinema, directed 62 films, most of which he also wrote. He also directed over 170 plays. Some of his internationally renowned favorite actors were Liv Ullmann, Bibi Andersson and Max von Sydow. Most of his films were set in the landscape of his native Sweden and major themes were often bleak, dealing with death, illness, betrayal and insanity. He was nominated for nine Oscars. He died in 2007.
