ANTALYA - Hosting preparatory camps for football teams from all over the world, Antalya’s Belek and Kadriye districts are in need of new football pitches.
Saying that football tourism first began in Belek, Yusuf Mecek, Belek mayor, also added: "Belek is the center of Turkish football tourism. It is of urgent need to form new football fields in the district to attract more football teams in coordination with the people dealing with tourism."
They have initiated a new project including the formation of five new football fields with a capacity of 10,000 people, Mecek said.

Aiming to hold a chairmanship cup with the support of tourism authorities and the Ministry of Tourism following the completion of the football fields, Mecek further noted: "All the costs of the cup, which is expected to greatly contribute to the publicity of the region, will be met by the municipality.
The chairmanship cup will include such teams as Bayern Münih, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Milan. When the cup has turned into a tradition, Turkish Turkey tourism will benefit greatly from it".
Highlighting that they, as the local municipalities, would coordinate with tourism authorities in order to contribute to the development of football based tourism, Hüseyin Kantoz, Kadriye mayor, also added: "we will allocate land to those who want to invest in football tourism. The district has around 50 football grounds, however, the number does not seem to be enough. We need at least 20 more fields."
The region of Belek would be more attractive to tourism if new sports facilities for volleyball, handball and basketball teams were also constructed, he said.
