Bekir Coskun: Darkness has lots of defenders

Today is June 1. The first day of a new period for journalists in Turkey. From now on, our writings can be punished by prison time. Congratulations to theives, con artists, counterfeiters, religious traders, and those using politics for personal gain. The sects and sheiks who open secret, illegal Koran courses will no longer go to prison. But the same new law means that those who ask in their writing what these people are up to can go to prison.  Congratulations.... No one, not our newspapers or our televisions, is defending us. But the Prime Minister is defending the Koran courses run by militants who hate the secular republic who want to train our children in basements. What can you do? That's just how this period is.  No one is standing up to defend enlightenment. But darkness has lots of defenders.  How can the Prime Minister of a secular republic defend unauthorized religious courses? Aren't you going to ask?  Anyway, let's see. Today is June 1, 2005. Throw the journalists into jail. But leave free the enemies of the republic, the counterfeiters, the defenders of darkness. This is the period we are living in.  What can you do? Darkness has lots of defenders. Â
