According to the statement, Barroso and Rehn will give various messages to Turkey, including improvement of Turkey-EU relations and support for Turkey's reforms. The commission said it was an earlier scheduled visit, and had no connection with recent developments in Turkey.
"Barroso and Rehn will meet President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan," the commission also said. The two top members of the commission will also have talks with representatives of political parties and NGOs in capital Ankara and Istanbul.
After participating in the official talks to be presided by Erdogan, Barroso will proceed to Istanbul on April 11th and attend a conference at Bilgi University.
