Aysel, who is also a university student, and her partner, Arash, who is also a popular composer and singer worldwide, won 207 points with their song "Always".
The song has been composed by Arash and blends Western music with traditional melodies. Speaking to daily Hürriyet, Aysel said she was sure before the contest that Turkey and Azerbaijan would give each other 12 points.
"We were sure that the Turkish public would support us. I asked the people of Azerbaijan to support the Turkish song, too. And we gave Hadise 12 points," she said. Aysel said she wanted Turkish people to know her appreciation to them, adding that she would to come to Turkey for a concert because of Turkey’s support. "I will give my first concert in Turkey in the near future," she said. "I wish the Turkish-Azerbaijan friendship would continue forever."
Before the contest, Aysel said she felt ill at ease with closer relations between Turkey and Armenia. "This is a political issue," Aysel said. "When we ask our people before the contest, they said they would vote for Turkey. And I said, I always believe in Turkey."
Azerbaijan participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time last year. Azerbaijani representatives Elnur and Samir ranked eighth with their song "Day After Day."
