Aydin Dogan, the Deputy President of WAN’s Executive Board said that three religions co-existed in Istanbul along the Centuries. He said “If a second Babylon representing peace and happiness in the world was to be erected today, the best place to do that, will be Istanbul.” Reminding that the WAN congress was held for the first time at a city so close to the Middle East, Dogan said that “A second tower of Babylon which we would erect in Istanbul, can be a means for a more peaceful and happy world. I hope that our common will to emerge here turns into a Babylon declaration.” Pointing out that the freedom of press depending on economic freedom, Dogan said this was not also enough. “Those attempting to use this profession for their individual interests, must not be allowed doing so. Therefore laundered money, and money whose tax is not paid, and whose sources are not transparent, should enter the press.”
