BELGRADE - An Australian athlete was diagnosed with swine flu at the World University Games, Serbian health officials said Thursday.
The unidentified Australian has been hospitalized in Belgrade's military hospital, said Predrag Kon, a health official. Several Australian team members who were in contact with the infected athlete were isolated to prevent the spread of the disease at the games at which some 8,000 athletes and officials are present. "There is no need for panic as the medical authorities are conducting all precautionary measures," said director of the games Nebojsa Ilic. The athletes who are competing at the July 1-12 games were on arrival required to provide a certificate saying they did not have swine flu, or they could be quarantined.
