The assassination attempt on former Prime Minister Turgut Ozal of Turkey took place on June 18th, 1988 in Ankara, at a caucus of the ANAP party held in a covered sports arena. The assassin, a man named Kartal Demirag, aimed the first bullet at Ozal's chest and the second at his stomach, but missed his mark on both of them.
The first bullet wound up hitting Ozal's right hand, and the second lodged itself in the microphone in front of Ozal. The assassin was caught as panic broke out in the sports salon, but Ozal stood up to continue his speech, after saying to everyone present "Let no one take the life granted by Allah without permission from Allah."
