ISTANBUL - Poets, writers and scientists will gather in Çukurova, in the southern part of Turkey, from April 24 to 27 for the third installment of Çukurova Art Days, or UÇSG.
The event is being organized by the Çukurova Art Initiative Group, under the leadership of the Turkish Writers’ Union and the Arabic Men of Literature and Writers' Union. Simultaneous events will take place in the Mediterranean and southeastern Anatolian cities of Adana, Antakya, Gaziantep, Iskenderun, Mersin and Tarsus in Turkey and Aleppo in Syria.
Labor, enlightenment
Exhibitions of painting, photography and cartoons as well as concerts and panel discussions will all revolve around the theme of "For Labor and EnlightenmentÉ" Supporting institutions include the Adana Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep University, Golden Cocoon A.Ş., İçel Art Club and the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality.
For the first time, a Çukurova Award will be presented this year as part of the UÇSG. According to a written statement by the Çukurova Art Initiative Group, the award "will be presented to people who work in the fields of theater, music, painting, poetry, novels or interviews and promote Çukurova in their works while giving peace messages to the Middle East."
The foreign artists expected to join the events include Semih El Kasım and Musa Havamdeh from Palestine; Jozef Harb from Lebanon; Professor Hüseyin Cuma, Züher Cabbur, Suud Kbaylet, Ali Akle Orsan, Nazmiye Ekrad and Meryem Hayrbek from Syria; Vefa el Hakem from Egypt; Intisar Abbas from Jordan; Necva el Menestiri es Şerif from Tunisia; and Professor Elçin İskenderzade and Nihat Ziyalan from Azerbaijan.
