İZMİR - İzmir Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu paid a final visit to the Adnan Saygun Art Center, or AASSM, before it opens Saturday. Kocaoğlu also listened to the first concert performed by conservatory students. He said the center fulfilled the requirements of European standards, adding its technical background was the strongest in Turkey.
"Everything from the sound system to the special air-conditioning system has been studied in detail and applied. It is an art center that deserves the name of Adnan Saygun, a well-known Turkşsh composer and musicologist. Turkey will be proud of this center."
Along with the center, there is now the "Ahmed Adnan Saygun Honorary Symphonic Orchestra and Chorus." The orchestra will perform Yunus Emre Oratorio, composed by Saygun, on opening night.
The orchestra, conducted by Rengin Gökmen and chorus director Ali Hoca, is made up of Bengi İspir (soprano), Aylin Ateş (mezzo-soprano), Hüseyin Likos (tenor) and Tevfik Rodos (bass). The orchestra will play Saygun’s first piano concerto and Beethoven’s 5th symphony during another concert Sunday. Pianist Gülsin Onay will accompany the orchestra as a soloist. Also, works from Istanbul Modern collection will be exhibited in the art center.
