ANTALYA - Turkey’s tourism capital, Antalya, welcomes millions of local and foreign tourists with its sun and sea in the summer, and has the ski center of Saklıkent for the wintertime for those who prefer snow to sand.

Antalya, a summer tourist’s city best known for its sea, beach and sun, has a hidden snow paradise that is gaining popularity among winter-season tourists.

The Saklıkent Ski Center is a little-known skier’s resort just one hour's drive from Centrum at the base of Bakırlı Mountain. It attracts local skiers and is growing as a winter vacation destination for tourists

İsa Alemdar, manager of Saklıkent Ski Center, told the Anatolian News Agency that Saklıkent was almost Antalya’s supporter in the winter. Alemdar said that some days you could experience all four seasons in Antalya; that people could go to the beach in the morning and then ski at Saklıkent Ski Center in the afternoon. Alemdar said there was never a lack of snow at the center during wintertime. "The season starts at the end of December in Saklıkent and lasts until April, depending on weather conditions. Our center also includes a restaurant and a boutique hotel."

Alemdar said the most enjoyable spot of the center was in front of the fireplace and many customers rest there. "A skier’s every need can be met here. The chairlift can take you as high as 2,500 meters. For those wanting to learn to ski, lessons are available from our professional instructors all season long," Alemdar said. There is an observatory from The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, or TÜBİTAK at the top of the mountain, operational 365 days a year, said Alemdar.

Alemdar emphasized that Saklıkent was a place worth seeing and the ski center was visited mostly by German and Russian tourists. Alemdar said that some days the weather was so beautiful that tourists both sunbathe and ski at the center.

Alemdar also said Saklıkent was more crowded at the weekends with 6,000 to 10,000 visitors.
