ANKARA - The Antalya Golden Orange Poetry Award, known as the Oscar of Turkish poetry, will this year go to Kemal Özer for his book "Temmuz İçin Yaralı Semah Ğ Yangın Şiirleri" (Wounded Whirling for July Ğ Poetries of Fire).
The unanimous decision came from a jury led by journalist Doğan Hızlan, and made up of Cevat Çapan, Enver Ercan, Şeref Bilsel and Yücel Kayıran.
The Antalya Foundation for Culture and Arts, or AKSAV, which organizes the Antalya Golden Orange
Film Festival, Antalya Eurasia International Film Competition and Antalya International Piano Festival, has given the Poetry Award for 13 years in order to contribute to Turkish literature.
Özer, 74, whose book’s main theme is the fire that caused the death of Turkish intellectuals in Madımak Hotel in Sivas in 1993, could not attend the ceremony held at the Antalya Culture Center at the weekend because of health problems. Hızlan accepted the award on behalf of Özer.
