ANKARA - A psychiatry clinic run by Ankara University’s medical faculty is being forced to shut its doors for the summer due to a lack of care providers.
The 138-bed clinic will shut down for a period of two months starting July 1, when current staff members will begin using their annual leave.
The clinic, which is considered the largest in its field in Turkey, will discharge all its patients by July 1 and will not admit any new ones. The clinic provides treatment for alcohol addiction, depression and schizophrenia. The clinic originally had 80 care providers, but that number dropped to 15. The clinic has been unable to recruit new care providers. "We have not been granted permission to hire care providers for years. We can’t employ them on a contract basis," said Dr. Abdülkadir Çevik, who works at the clinic. "With current staff going on leave, we won’t be able to provide services."
