AYDIN - The water level of dams in Aydın, Denizli and Muğla are at only around 15 percent of total capacity, according to information obtained from the Public Waterworks Administration.
"The water level of the Geyik Dam, which was at 56 percent, has decreased to 40 percent as of Dec. 12. The Mumcular Dam decreased from 33 percent to 14 percent and the Topçam Dam from 28 percent to 13 percent. The Topçam Dam dropped from 28 percent to 13 percent, and in the Işıklı Gölü Barajı Dam, from 36 percent to 31 percent.
"Levels in the Gökpınar Dam dropped from 42 percent to 39 percent and in the Kemer Dam from 39 percent to 15 percent. The Adıgüzel Dam level decreased from 14 percent to 10 percent of its capacity and the Karpuzlu Yaylakavak Dam dropped from 72 percent to 16 percent," said Halil İbrahim İndap, regional manager of the Public Waterworks Administration.
The total volume of water was recorded to be over 488 million cubic meters last year and has dropped to under 297 million cubic meters this year, said Indap. He said the total volume of water in the dams was at 15 percent of total capacity whereas last year it was at 25 percent.
Rain does not help
There was more rainfall this year than last, but the soil can not retain as much water due to long-term drought, İndap said.Hoping rains would increase next year, İndap said water distribution plans would be made for summer months.
