ANKARA - Raziye Ağgören, a female tae kwon do player who wears a headscarf, was rewarded by Erdoğan for her success in the past and now she wants to be a mayor for the AKP in the Çubuk district of Ankara.
The 40-year-old Ağgören has been practicing tae kwon do since her she was a teen. She runs a tae kwon do sports center and is a referee, though is inactive due to the headscarf issue. As far as I know, Ağören is the member of a Türkmen tribe and her family controls about 3,500 votes in the region. As the Republican People’s Party, or CHP, makes the "chador move," her headscarf shouldn’t be a problem, she says.
