AKP Deputy: Is This Reception A Fashion Show?

Justice and Development Party (AKP) Deputy Hayati Yazici, who was invited to the October 29 Reception in the Cankaya (Presidential) Kiosk on his own (without his wife), reacted at President Ahmet Necdet Sezer by saying, “Does he organize a fashion show so that he makes a discrimination? The National Day belongs to all of us!” AKP Deputy Chairman Yazici told Hurriyet, “It is extremely wrong and humiliating. This is a typical discrimination case. The very basic unit of the Turkish society is family, which is composed of husband, wife, and children. I perceive this attitude of the President as a stance against this basic unit. This is not a personal reception of his. He represents everyone as the President of the Republic.”Erdogan: It Is Our Nation That Will EvaluateRegarding the stance of President Sezer towards turbaned wives of AKP deputies in the case of the October 29 Reception, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said, “The nation will evaluate this issue in the most ideal way, in its conscience. Republic means the people and this is the festival, the reception of the people. I am leaving evaluating this issue, to the people.” Erdogan said that he would attend the reception.�
