Turkey's Ak Enerji bought bid specifications for Turkey's first nuclear power plant, the company announced in a statement issued to Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) on Friday.
"Our company has bought the bid specification for the nuclear plant tender which will be held on Sept 24, 2008 and observing the conditions of accession," the statement said.
Â
Turkey is among the countries worldwide leaning toward nuclear power to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, blamed for global warming, and as fossil fuel prices surge.
Â
The government tender is to build a 4,000-megawatt nuclear plant in the town of Akkuyu on the Mediterranean coast to help meet power demand that is rising by eight percent a year.
Â
Turkey will also build a second plant near Sinop on the Black Sea coast.
