ISTANBUL - AirTies, a Turkish wireless router producer, has become the second-best seller in Multirama, a technology store chain in Greece. The firm also introduced its products in Ukraine.

"The market in Greece is relatively small, but we will have chance to see whether our model is right and suitable for foreign markets," said Bülent Çelebi, chairman AirTies. Modems in Greece are designed to have both ISDN and PSTN, two different cable systems used in Greece, at the same time, which removes one of the main problems for local customers, said Evrim Önk, AirTies international channel sales manager.

Stathis Dimitriadis, Greece sales manager for AirTies, told the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review that this year the firm is aiming for $1 million in sales to the Greek market.

The Ukraine market, on the other hand, is growing slowly due to the crisis, but it is a promising market, with 800,000 of its population of 50 million using ADSL, Çelebi said. In Ukraine, wireless router models AIR4240 and RT204 have been introduced by distributor Versiya in shops called Metro and Gigabyte.

AirTies survived the crisis with minimal losses, according to Çelebi. "Although the number of new customers declined 40 percent this year, from 1.2 million in 2008 to 800,000, the variety of products and new technologies enabled the firm to continue to grow," Çelebi said.

Internet Protocol Television, or IPTV, which enables multiple TV sets to connect wirelessly through a single satellite box, is expected to earn the firm more than half of its endorsement in 2009 next year, Çelebi said.

The success can be partly attributed to the firm’s concerns about and sensitivity toward customer satisfaction, Önk said. This principle is also applied in foreign markets, said Önk, adding that the firm had designed introductory Web sites and instructions for use in Greek and Russian and had call center representatives speaking in Greek and Russian.
