MARMARİS - An environmentalist in Marmaris, his wife and their two children have traveled through beaches and bays to collect 125 bags of garbage.

İmdat Avcı, who has been collecting garbage in Marmaris for the last 19 years, brought the garbage he collected with his family to the marina. A group of people greeted the family at the marina to congratulate them. Avcı delivered the garbage to municipal officials.

Avcı and his family later opened a banner that read "Do not let June 5 Environment Day become a day for so-called environmentalists and so-called environmental organizations."

"I was going to make this cleaning act 10 days ago, but I postponed it because too many lies are told on Environment Day," Avcı told reporters. "I, my wife and my two children sailed from Albatros marina to Yalancıboğaz, and to Cennet and Bedir islands from there. I do not wish to talk any more on environmental pollution. I do not know how to talk, but I know how to act."

The activist said they collected 35 bags of garbage on the last day of their cleaning, most of which were plastic bottles, liquor bottles and packaging waste. Avcı’s 11-year-old daughter, Türkü, said she was happy to have helped her father. "This world belongs to us all, but people pollute where they live. They harm themselves without even knowing it. We would have a much cleaner world if everybody thought this way."

Avcı, who is famous for his cleaning acts, made similar acts last year. He cleaned the highway from Marmaris to Gökova all by himself and also cleaned the bays with his family, collecting 350 bags of garbage.
