NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks are mostly lower in early trading as the market comes off its worst quarter in four years.
Energy stocks bucked the downward trend early Thursday and moved higher along with the price of oil.
Exxon Mobil and Chevron rose the most in the Dow Jones industrial average in the first few minutes of trading.
The Dow was off eight points, less than 0.1 percent, to 16,274.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped two points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,917. The Nasdaq composite fell 23 points, or 0.5 percent, to 4,595.
Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.03 percent.
