ISTANBUL - The annual charity ball 'A Night in Venice' organized by the Spouses of the Consular Corps of Istanbul this year is seeking to raise money for facilities for disabled children. The ball is scheduled for March 3 at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum.
The Spouses of the Consular Corps of Istanbul, or SCCI, will host their annual Charity Ball "A Night in Venice" on March 3 at the Rahmi M.
Koç Museum on the Golden Horn. On that night they will recreate the carnival atmosphere of the Canal Grande of Venice, the sister city of Istanbul.
The announcement came from Monica Rustico, wife of the Consul General of Italy and president of SCCI and Mina Argun, spouse of the Honorary Consul General of Guinea and president of the charity committee of SCCI.
The SCCI association was founded in 1998 by the spouses of the Consuls General and Honorary Consuls General stationed in Istanbul. It is a multicultural international group that seeks to promote friendship among its members, welcomes newcomers and organizes cultural events that give the opportunity to discover all the treasures this vibrant city holds while better understanding of Turkey as a host country. Fundraising is another important part of the organization’s program. They collaborate with local authorities, associations and institutions to identify areas of need where they can make a contribution. This is their way of showing their affection and friendship toward Istanbul and to feel more a part of it.
This year, the SCCI’s aim is huge and challenging. Its members were deeply touched by the pictures published in the press that showed the conditions of some facilities for disabled children, as a result of the visit of Ms Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. It is not their role to comment on the circumstances that led to the publication of the pictures, but their intent is rather to help the responsible institutions to transform this situation into a better one.
Through the president of the charity committee, Argun, the committee immediately contacted the responsible authorities and learned there is a new facility that will be ready in a couple of months to host these children, but funds to furnish the building are extremely limited. Thus, the committee’s goal is to raise a substantial sum of money and join the efforts of the responsible authorities to furnish and equip this new building in a functional, comfortable and pleasant way. With contributions, they can make this happen because teamwork divides the task and doubles the success.
