A Kurdish representative from the Iraqi Parliament, Roz Nuri Savis, has suggested that in order to recognize the presence of the Kurds within the newborn Iraqi federal government, that a new Iraqi flag ought to be altered to include the Kurdish symbols of either a yellow stripe or a sun. In an interview with the Russian distributed "Vremya Novosti" newspaper, Savis said "The new governing force which has come to power in Iraq with the elections has the power and the authority to make deep seated changes in the country. Iraq may be reborn soon as the Federal Iraqi Government. In this case, the official flag of Iraq would have to change too." A Different Flag Already The current Iraqi flag is already different that the one used under Saddam Hussein, explained Savis in the interview. "Under Saddam's rule, the flag was a 2/3 proportioned flag, with red-white-black stripes topped by three green stars, and the writing 'Allahu Ekbar' in Saddam's own handwriting. The proportions of the flag have now changed, and the writing in between the stripes and the stars is no longer in Saddam's hand, but something directly from a printing machine."  Â
