ISTANBUL - Chris Lofton, playing for the Mersin Municipality team in the Beko Turkish Basketball League, or TBL, shattered modern-day division records scoring 61 points on Saturday.
The American point guard burned the Casa TED team with 61 points, flying the Southerners to a 116-70 win. Lofton scored 34 points in the first half, and outscored Casa TED alone, as the score was 62-23.
A former NCAA player for the Tennessee Volunteers, Lofton shot for an incredible 17-for-22 behind the three-point line. He also added four assists and three rebounds.
The all-time record for most points in a Turkish league game is held by former
Fenerbahçe star Erman Kunter, who scored 153 points in a 175-107 victory over Hilalspor in 1988. Lofton’s performance, however, is the best individual scoring recital in the last two decades.
